Assessor(s)
G.D. Duncan & D. Pillay
Justification
Known from a restricted range (35 km²) in the Elgin valley, recorded from less than five locations with continuing decline of the largest subpopulation occurring as a result of informal settlement expansion.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
Elgin Valley.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Kogelberg Sandstone Fynbos
Description
Rocky sandstone slopes.
Threats
The largest subpopulation occurs adjacent to an informal settlement, and is threatened by habitat loss to ongoing, unregulated expansion of the settlement. A second subpopulation has lost some habitat to infrastructure development related to a hydro-electric power station, but this threat is not ongoing. A proportion of the population is protected within the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve and is not threatened.
