Justification
Thesium carinatum is widespread in montane areas with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 69 382 km². It is not threatened, and is therefore listed as Least Concern.

Range
This species is endemic to South Africa, however, its distribution is uncertain. Hill (1915) cites collections from the Cederberg to the Cape Peninsula and Kleinrivier Mountains, and eastwards as far as the Swartberg Pass and Outeniqua Mountains near George. Manning and Goldblatt (2012) has a much narrower distribution, including only the Cederberg and Groot Winterhoek Mountains.
