Justification
Thesium asperifolium is a very poorly known species, last collected in 1936. It is possibly overlooked. Thesium is in need of taxonomic revision, and species are difficult to identify. This species is possibly not sufficiently distinct to warrant recognition as a separate taxon. It is therefore listed as Data Deficient - Taxonomically Problematic (DDT).

Its habitat is uncertain, it possibly occurs on sandstone slopes.
Threats
Threats to Thesium asperifolium are unknown. Locality descriptions on known records are too vague to infer possible threats.
Population

This species is known from only three collections, two from around George, and one from Queenstown. It was last recorded in 1936. Current status and trend of the population is not known.
