Justification | Wahlenbergia paniculata is a widespread and common species, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 49 045 km². It has lost significant amounts of habitat, and loss continues, but it is not yet in danger of extinction, and is therefore listed as Least Concern. |
Distribution |

Description | It is an annual herb occurring on lowland sandy flats, and is resilient to disturbance. |
Threats |
Fynbos on the Western Cape's coastal lowlands have been extensively transformed and fragmented due to urban expansion and agriculture. Rapid loss continues, with 6% loss recorded between 1990 and 2014. Habitat degradation is also ongoing, particularly on small, isolated remnants, that are impacted by overgrazing and spreading alien invasive plants. Wahlenbergia paniculata however tends to persist in disturbed areas. |
