Justification
Wahlenbergia capensis is a widespread and common species, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 73 715 km². It is declining due to ongoing habitat loss, but is not yet in danger of extinction. It is therefore listed as Least Concern.

This species is endemic to South Africa, and is widespread across the Western Cape's coastal lowlands, from Clanwilliam southwards to the Cape Peninsula, and eastwards to Knysna.

Description
It is an annual herb occurring on sandy flats and slopes in fynbos. It is resilient to disturbance.
Threats
Coastal and lowland fynbos in the Western Cape are extensively transformed and fragmented due to historical loss to agriculture, urban expansion and coastal development, and loss continues. Many subpopulations are also threatened by competition from alien invasive plants.
