Justification
A highly localised Eastern Cape endemic with an area of occupancy (AOO) of 8 km². It is known from a single location where it is potentially threatened by road expansion and flooding of the river valley. The species population is not declining. It is therefore assessed as Vulnerable under criterion D.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Eastern Cape
Range
This species is restricted in Kat river Dam, near Fort Beaufort.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system

Major habitats
Fish Valley Thicket
Description
It grows in valley thicket on exposed intrusive dolerite sill, at 800 m.a.s.l.
Threats
Road construction and river valley flooding are two potential threats to the species' two known subpopulations. The type locality is particularly near the Kat River Valley, where flooding has historically been documented to have reduced it. The expansion of a road may have an impact on the nearby subpopulation.
Population

This species is extremely rare, with only one subpopulation known. The population is stable and has a population size of less than 1000 mature individuals.
