Justification
This species is restricted to sandstone soils, is common and has no severe significant threats. It is widely distributed with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 27 402 km². It is therefore listed as Least Concern.

This species has a wide distribution in the mountainous interior of the Eastern Cape between Adelaide, Shawbury and Burgersdorp.

It is restricted to sandstone soils in montane grassland, 1108-1760 m.
Threats
Overstocking has degraded parts of this species' habitat in communal farmland, resulting in trampling and uprooting of plants.
