Justification
EOO 2860 km², less than 10 known locations. Much of its habitat has been transformed to forestry plantations. Threatened by ongoing habitat degradation through severe overgrazing, especially in the Ngome area.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga
Range
Hilltops in the Vryheid-Ngome district, northern KwaZulu-Natal and Wakkerstroom, southern Mpumalanga.

Northern Zululand Mistbelt Grassland, Paulpietersburg Moist Grassland, Wakkerstroom Montane Grassland
Description
Montane and mistbelt grassland, on rock outcrops with dolerite soils, 1200-1600 m.
Threats
Habitat loss, Habitat degradation
Population

Subpopulations on the Ngome mountain are small - about 20-30 individuals scattered in the grasslands (I. Johnson pers. comm.). The subpopulation in Ithala Game Reserve consists of about 100 individuals (C.R. Scott-Shaw pers. comm.). This species could potentially qualify under C criterion, but the habitat was not thoroughly surveyed and this species could be overlooked in dense grassland. Flagged for CREW-KZN to survey. All subpopulations on the Mondi property and communal areas surrounding Ngome should be considered as one location as all these are threatened by severe overgrazing (I. Johnson pers. comm.) Division of locations elsewhere in the range (Louwsburg Plateau and Endomuka Mountain) uncertain as land ownership is unknown.
