Description
Grassland or low, open woodland, restricted to rocky dolomite slopes, 1360-1950 m.
Threats
At the time of the publication of this species (1992) about half of the known subpopulations of this species were threatened by habitat degradation due to overgrazing by cattle on the Strydpoort Mountains (Balkwill et al. 1992, MJ Balkwill pers. comm.) Plans were in place to convert the whole area into a chain of provincial and private nature reserves linking Bewaarkloof to the Wolkberg Wilderness area. There is however at present very little conservation management, and the area is still utilized for cattle grazing and firewood collecting (Anonymous 2010).
Population

Nine subpopulations are known, scattered across mountainous areas. There are 20-30 plants in each subpopulation (MJ Balkwill pers. comm.).
