Justification
A rare species known from three locations that is potentially threatened by habitat loss and degradation.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Northern Cape, North West
Range
Kalahari region near Kuruman.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Kuruman Mountain Bushveld
Description
Uncertain, possibly rocky slopes or koppies.
Threats
The subpopulation at the type locality is likely to have declined due to habitat loss to asbestos strip mining. One subpopulation near Kuruman is potentially threatened by habitat loss to expanding rural settlements. It is potentially threatened by habitat degradation due to overgrazing across its range.
Population

Barleria media is a rare and very poorly known species, which was last collected in 1962. The area where it occurs is extremely under-sampled, and efforts are needed to relocate populations of this species in the wild.
